Hotels in Greece
Rooftop hotels in Greece are, on this site, an Athens story, and the reason fits in one word: the Acropolis. The Parthenon sits on its rock above the city centre, and hotel terraces in Monastiraki, Plaka, Psyrri and Koukaki are built around that single view. Athens is a low, white, sprawling city, so even a modest roof can see past the rooftops to Lycabettus Hill, the columns of the Temple of Olympian Zeus and, on clear days, a strip of the Saronic Gulf.
The scene here is boutique and intimate rather than tall: small terraces, adults-only roofs and bars where the floodlit Parthenon does the work after dark. Season runs roughly April to October; July and August bring intense heat, so the hours after sunset are the real rooftop time. Choose Monastiraki or Plaka for the closest Acropolis views, Koukaki for a quieter base on the south side of the rock.

What to expect
- Athens: rooftops in Monastiraki and Plaka face the Parthenon at close range, floodlit every night.
- Lycabettus Hill, with its small white chapel, rises above the city from terraces in Kolonaki and the centre.
- Koukaki rooftops look at the south side of the Acropolis and toward Philopappos Hill.
- At sunset Mount Hymettus to the east often takes on a violet tint, long celebrated by Athenian poets.
- From higher terraces, a strip of the Saronic Gulf and the port of Piraeus shows on clear days.
- April to June and September to October are the most comfortable months for an Athens rooftop evening.
